The George Russell’s celebration in Singapore came with a touch of controversy as tension erupted between teammates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri after a dramatic first-lap collision that left both drivers frustrated.

Russell led the Singapore Grand Prix from the front, displaying total control throughout the race. Meanwhile, Norris managed to reduce Piastri’s championship lead following their early contact.

The Briton launched a strong start from fifth, aggressively overtaking Kimi Antonelli and moving past Piastri into Turn 3, where he brushed the rear of Max Verstappen’s Red Bull before nudging his teammate wide.

Despite slight front-wing damage, Norris continued and fought hard to secure third place behind Verstappen, while Piastri, hampered by the early incident and a slow pit stop, had to settle for fourth.

Russell Rules the Night

The incident left the Australian fuming, accusing Norris over team radio of breaching McLaren’s internal racing protocol. “That’s not fair,” he exclaimed, clearly frustrated by what he perceived as unnecessary risk-taking on the opening lap.

McLaren’s management, led by CEO Zak Brown and Team Principal Andrea Stella, may now face their toughest internal challenge yet—balancing competitive spirit with team harmony.

Despite the intra-team drama, McLaren’s achievement cannot be understated. Their 10th Constructors’ Championship title marks a new milestone for the team, equaling the record for the earliest clinch of the crown with six races still to go. The result underscores the exceptional culture, strategy, and consistency cultivated by the team leadership, who have transformed McLaren into a model of excellence once again.

As for the rest of the race, Russell’s dominance was unchallenged. Calm and precise, he controlled the pace and navigated through backmarkers with ease, only briefly requesting blue flags when encountering lapped traffic. Verstappen, finishing second, trimmed his gap to Piastri to 63 points in the drivers’ standings, while Norris’s podium finish further tightened the battle for runner-up positions.

Rivals in Orange

Piastri’s race was compromised not only by the opening contact but also by a sluggish 5.2-second pit stop—McLaren’s third consecutive slow service—which cost him the chance to challenge for the podium. Behind him, Kimi Antonelli impressed on his debut at the Singapore Grand Prix, finishing a commendable fifth in an otherwise eventful evening under the Marina Bay lights.

The Formula 1 championship now leaves Asia and turns its attention to North America, where the next challenge awaits at the United States Grand Prix in Austin from October 17–19.
