Haider Ackermann will take over from Peter Hawkins, who held the Creative Direction for a year and was a long-time right-hand man to Tom Ford, playing a crucial role during the brand’s most iconic years.

Ackermann, admired in the fashion industry and favored by numerous celebrities such as Timothée Chalamet, Tilda Swinton, Rihanna, and Cate Blanchett—who dazzled at the last Cannes Film Festival in one of his dresses— is preparing to unveil his first collection in March in Paris.

The designer expressed his excitement in an official statement: “It is a tremendous honor to continue Tom Ford’s legacy, a man I have always deeply admired.”

Tom Ford himself, who retired in 2023 after selling his company to the Estée Lauder Group, has voiced his respect for Ackermann. “He is an incredible colorist, his tailoring is perfect, and above all, he is modern. We share historical references. I suspect I will be one of the first to stand up and applaud at his March show.”

Ackermann put his namesake brand on hold in 2020 due to disagreements with his investors, but his name has repeatedly come up as a candidate to lead major fashion houses like Chanel.

While these rumors had not materialized until now, his participation as a guest designer in Jean Paul Gaultier’s haute couture show some years ago brought him back into the fashion spotlight.

After collaborations with sports brands like Fila and Canada Goose, Ackermann returns to a prominent place in the industry.

His upcoming collection, to be presented in March, marks a new chapter for the Tom Ford house, which has decided to move its Fashion Week shows from Milan to Paris, the city where the designer resides.

In a past interview with LUSTER Magazine, Ackermann spoke about his connection to Colombia and how he nurtures it: “Colombia is in my blood, it’s part of me, and it became even deeper after my trips to Bogotá, Medellín, and Cartagena and the people I met.

The Colombian designer also reflected on his evolution in the fashion world: “Being on the other side of the curtain gives you a certain responsibility and, at the same time, a certain strength.”

Moreover, Ackermann has stated that he does not wish to follow “the celebrity game” and that, for him, “the true value of fashion lies in the design, the creative work inherent in it, in the piece itself, and not in its wearers.

However, he admits that social media has changed the landscape: “The situation with social media forces us to approach the celebrity game differently; one must find their path and limit in this. Which leads to the question: what is a celebrity today?

He also spoke about his close friendship with Tilda Swinton, often documented on his Instagram profile: “We are playmates, the exchange, the thoughts always challenge us to explore a little more. But beyond that, it gives us both confidence for those red-carpet moments.
