From December 4 to 8, 2024 (with preview days on the 4th and 5th), Art Basel Miami Beach will bring together collectors from around the world for a unique exhibition of cutting-edge art.

In this 2024 edition, Art Basel has invited 283 galleries from 34 countries, slightly surpassing last year’s participation. Almost two-thirds of the galleries are from America, and an interesting fact is that 32 of them are new to the list, representing the largest incorporation of new talent since 2021.

Cities such as Shanghai, Seoul, San Francisco, Brussels, Zurich, New York, Paris, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Portland and Singapore, among others, will be present through their galleries. For the first time, representatives from Romania and Indonesia will also participate.

Same number, more renewal

The host city, Miami, is not far behind. Five local galleries will repeat their presence at the fair, maintaining the same number as last year. Central Fine stands out, a regular at Art Basel, which this time moves from the Nova section to the main Galleries section. There they will present a solo exhibition by the renowned artist Costanza Schaffner.

David Castillo, another regular participant, returns to the Galleries section with a focus on abstract art. We will be able to appreciate works by Cuban artists such as Belkis Ayón and Maria de los Angeles Rodriguez Jimenez, both with recent solo shows at the gallery, along with other prominent names such as Pepe Mar, Sanford Biggers and Vaughn Spann.

Spinello Projects, based in Allapattah, will present the work of Argentine-Miami artist Nina Surel in the Nova section. This ceramist is recognized for her friezes that channel ancient Greek art and feminine mysticism, and currently has works on display in the Design District.

Art from around the world

From the Survey section, the Piero Atchugarry Gallery (with locations in Little Haiti and Garzón, Uruguay) will offer a solo exhibition by Linda Kohen. This Milan-born painter, 100 years old, fled fascist Italy in 1939 with her family and ended up settling in Uruguay, where she developed an artistic career marked by sober but evocative paintings of realist themes.

Fredric Snitzer Gallery completes the list of local representatives in the Galleries section, although it has not yet announced its program. Last year, the gallery exhibited works by Carlos Alfonzo, Marielle Plaisir, Lazaro Saavedra and Rafael Ferrer, among others.

In addition to local galleries, it is worth highlighting the participation of three important galleries with headquarters or branches in Palm Beach: Acquavella, Gavlak and White Cube.
