A new timepiece, produced in a limited edition of just 88 pieces, pays tribute to Breguet’s unparalleled legacy of watchmaking innovation and artistry. A blend of heritage, technical mastery, and luxurious elegance, the Seconde Rétrograde 7035 is poised to captivate collectors and connoisseurs around the globe.

Founded in 1775 by Abraham-Louis Breguet, the maison has long stood at the forefront of horological innovation, pioneering inventions such as the tourbillon and the Breguet balance spring. The Tradition line, inspired by the brand’s historic souscription and tactile watches of the late 18th century, serves as a canvas for showcasing Breguet’s classical mechanical architecture and timeless elegance. The new Seconde Rétrograde 7035 upholds this lineage, fusing ornamental beauty with advanced technical features.

Housed in a perfectly proportioned 38mm case of 18-carat rose gold, the Seconde Rétrograde 7035 exudes refined femininity and opulence. The watch’s most visually arresting element is its dial design: the movement is displayed openly on the front, a hallmark of the Tradition line, revealing the intricate components typically hidden in most watches. Positioned at 12 o’clock is a delicate subdial crafted from natural white mother-of-pearl, offset to allow a clear view of the mechanical heart within.

Art of time

But what truly sets this edition apart is its exceptional use of snow-set diamonds, a decorative technique rarely seen in fine watchmaking. Using diamonds of varying sizes, Breguet’s artisans have meticulously adorned the movement’s mainplate and bridges with 190 brilliant-cut diamonds, creating a glistening, snow-like texture that enhances the architectural beauty of the openwork movement. The bezel is equally radiant, set with an additional 68 brilliant-cut diamonds that surround the dial in a sparkling halo of light.

The technical marvel within is the Calibre 505J, an automatic movement known for its precision and reliability. It features a reverse in-line lever escapement with silicon horns, along with a Breguet balance spring also made of silicon, materials that enhance magnetic resistance and longevity. Operating at a frequency of 3 Hz and offering a 50-hour power reserve, the Calibre 505J ensures accurate timekeeping worthy of the Breguet name.

One of the watch’s standout complications is the retrograde seconds display, a sophisticated mechanism located between 10 and 11 o’clock. Unlike a traditional circular seconds hand, this one travels across an arc and springs back to the starting position at the end of each minute. Set with rubies and pink sapphires, the hand itself adds a vibrant, dynamic flair that complements the sparkle of the diamonds and enriches the feminine aesthetic.

Tradition reimagined

This anniversary edition also offers exclusivity. Limited to just 88 individually numbered pieces, the Tradition Seconde Rétrograde 7035 is a collector’s dream. Each piece is engraved on the caseback with its unique number. The watch is completed by a rich red alligator leather strap, fastened with a rose gold pin buckle adorned with 25 brilliant-cut diamonds, ensuring that luxury is present in every detail.

With its harmonious fusion of historic design, modern materials, and artistic diamond-setting techniques, the Breguet Tradition Seconde Rétrograde 7035 represents the pinnacle of what haute horlogerie can achieve. It’s a statement piece not only of fashion and elegance, but also of technical genius—a wearable tribute to 250 years of watchmaking excellence.
