This Year’s Exhibition Theme: Honoring Black Sartorial Excellence

The MET Gala 2025 will spotlight a groundbreaking exhibition titled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”. 

 

This theme delves into the artistic, cultural, and historical nuances of Black dandyism, offering a tribute to centuries of style innovation within the Black diaspora. 

 

Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s influential book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, the exhibit will highlight how fashion has served as both resistance and expression.

 

This is the Costume Institute’s first men’s fashion-focused exhibition since 2003. 

 

From 18th-century portraits to today’s runway disruptors, the show will trace the lineage and legacy of Black men’s fashion with precision and reverence.
