Situated within the exclusive, gated community of Kanai, the Etéreo, Auberge Resorts Collection spans 680 acres and boasts over a mile of pristine, private beachfront. For couples and families with young children seeking a serene and effortless getaway, few destinations compare to this intimate retreat nestled among the lush mangroves.

Upon entering Kanai, guests pass by neighboring luxury hotels such as the EDITION and St. Regis before reaching the end of the road, where Etéreo, Auberge Resorts Collection appears to hover above the verdant landscape. The moment guests step inside, time seems to slow down. The delicate aroma of white copal drifts through the warm air as a personal ‘guía’ welcomes each visitor with a chilled hibiscus tea. Those who wish can also partake in a traditional Mayan ceremony, a symbolic ritual of arrival, before being guided to their accommodations.

Exploring the resort feels like a meditative journey in itself. The central buildings—housing the spa, gym, yoga studio, and reception—are crafted from natural stone, adorned with cascading bougainvillea, and surrounded by shallow reflective pools, enhancing the sensation of floating above the mangroves.

A sanctuary in Kanai

Throughout the property, tranquility reigns, with hammocks and swings inviting guests to pause and unwind. For those who wish to gaze at the stars, suspended nets provide the perfect vantage point. The resort’s grounding aesthetic is reinforced through its use of natural materials, including rich lava stone, gleaming copper, and native Tzalam wood.

The interior design seamlessly blends contemporary minimalism with subtle Mayan influences, reflected in elements like woven lampshades, artisanal rugs, and intuitive comforts such as one-touch Bluetooth sound systems that enhance the sense of home-like luxury.

Guests have a variety of dining experiences to choose from. The signature restaurant, Itzam, serves breakfast and dinner, offering elevated Mexican cuisine infused with a distinctive Mayan influence, all while overlooking the ocean. Meanwhile, Che Che, the second largest restaurant on the property, specializes in Nikkei cuisine, a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian flavors.

Art of Relaxation

The entire resort exudes a tranquil, almost spa-like ambiance, which extends into SANA, the property’s wellness sanctuary. The spa takes relaxation to a profound level, offering traditional treatments that integrate ancient Mayan rituals. Guests can experience deep tissue massages enhanced by obsidian stones, partake in purifying copal cleanse before treatments, or immerse themselves in a cenote-inspired pool at the spa’s heart.

One particularly unique pre-treatment ritual involves covering the body in natural clay and progressing through a series of temperature-based therapies—from sensory showers to saunas—culminating in a serene sound bath, leaving both body and mind deeply restored.
