A classic reimagined: the 1978 Rolls-Royce Corniche goes electric with Halcyon

Few automotive brands are as well-suited for electrification as Rolls-Royce. The marque has always been synonymous with supreme refinement, striving to eliminate unwanted noise, vibrations, and exhaust fumes long before electric powertrains made it effortless. While today’s technology allows for seamless integration of electric propulsion, such advancements were far from feasible in the 1960s and 70s.

However, the superior craftsmanship of classic Rolls-Royce models—including their advanced insulation, high-quality components, and effortlessly smooth suspension—makes them ideal candidates for modern EV conversions.

With their generous dimensions, these cars offer ample space for battery integration while preserving their legendary ability to glide across the road with minimal effort. Unlike more theatrical conversions such as the 1929 Phantom II—famously electrified by Electrogenic for actor Jason Momoa—Halcyon takes a more understated yet equally innovative approach.

Timeless elegance

Behind this ambitious project stands Evice Technologies, a leading expert in electric powertrains. Halcyon, established as its dedicated luxury division, aims to “remaster” classic Rolls-Royce models by equipping them with state-of-the-art electric drivetrains. The first creation under this new brand is the striking 1978 Rolls-Royce Corniche—a car that once epitomized effortless glamour on both the French Riviera and the streets of Hollywood.

Halcyon plans to produce just 60 units of this meticulously re-engineered Corniche, alongside its sibling model, the Silver Shadow. Deliveries are expected to commence in 2026, with each example uniquely tailored to its owner’s specifications.

Vintage meets voltage

While customization remains a core part of the experience—just as it was with Rolls-Royce in its original production years—base performance figures hint at an electric powertrain capable of delivering approximately 500 horsepower and a range exceeding 250 miles. This remarkable efficiency is made possible by an optional extended battery pack with a 94kWh capacity, surpassing most electric restomods currently on the market.

Intriguingly, the reimagined Corniche offers performance and range figures that nearly rival those of Rolls-Royce’s only fully electric production vehicle, the Spectre. Even their pricing aligns, with Halcyon’s restored masterpiece carrying a starting cost of £395,000—excluding the donor car and applicable taxes.

By combining heritage craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology, Halcyon is redefining the classic Rolls-Royce experience, ensuring that timeless automotive elegance can thrive in an electrified future.
