Art Basel Miami Beach 2024 opens to the public on Friday, December 6, and runs through Sunday, December 8 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. For those seeking a more exclusive experience, the vernissage will take place on the afternoon of Thursday, December 5. 

 

Below is everything you need to make the most of this event.

 

The 2024 edition will feature 286 leading galleries from 38 countries and territories, showcasing the best of their artistic programs. The fair is divided into several exhibition sectors, each with its unique focus.

Meridians

Art Basel’s signature sector for monumental artworks, will celebrate its fifth anniversary with a special reconfiguration. For the first time, it will be curated by Yasmil Raymond, an independent curator and former director of Portikus in Frankfurt. This edition will showcase 17 large-scale projects by renowned artists, including Alice Aycock, Rachel Feinstein, Roberto Huarcaya, Zhu Jinshi, Portia Munson, José Parlá, Lee ShinJa, and Franz West.

The Conversations

The program will feature captivating discussions from Thursday to Saturday, free and open to the public. Curated for the first time in Miami Beach by Kimberly Bradley, Conversations will kick off with the “Premiere artist talk”, focusing on the career of acclaimed New York-based Iranian artist Shirin Neshat.

 

Digital Dialogues

Co-hosted by TAEX and Digital Art Week, Digital Dialogues will explore the relationship between art and technology. This free event, taking place on December 5 and 6 at the New World Center, will feature renowned panelists, including Whitney Museum digital art curator Christiane Paul, NYU’s Amy Whittaker, and AI artist Kevin Abosch.

The Art Basel Shop

This shop returns for its third and largest edition to date. Curated by Sarah Andelman, this concept store will showcase exclusive lifestyle products, heritage collectibles, and collaborations with dynamic artists, brands, and publishers. 

 

Highlights include collaborations with Brazilian artist Paulo Nimer Pjota and the launch of the new AB by Art Basel Heritage line, inspired by the fair’s 1994 catalog cover. The shop will be located in three areas of the MBCC, featuring book signings, artist meet-and-greets, and more.

Art Basel has partnered with Airbnb to offer unique experiences in Miami. Although the tour with director Bridget Finn is sold out, four standout activities remain: an exclusive tour of emerging galleries and Superblue Miami with Stefanie Block Reed; a smartphone photography workshop and studio visit at Bakehouse Art Complex with curator Laura Novoa; a personalized tour led by José Parlá, showcasing his latest large-scale work Pathways (2024); and a multisensory dining experience hosted by chef Caique Tizzi, blending art, history, and cuisine.

 

Finally, the events program features a full online calendar, showcasing South Florida’s cultural institutions and exhibitions. 

 

Highlights include José Parlá at the Pérez Art Museum Miami, Lucy Bull at the Institute of Contemporary Art, and Rachel Feinstein at the Bass Museum of Art, among many others.
