McLaren pays tribute to Ayrton Senna with special livery for Monaco Grand Prix

A tribute to the three-time world champion and motorsport legend who had a special bond with the British team.

McLaren has unveiled a striking livery in tribute to Ayrton Senna for the Monaco Formula One Grand Prix. The MCL38 is adorned in green, yellow and blue, the colours that identified Senna’s iconic helmet, temporarily replacing McLaren’s signature papaya orange.

 

In addition, famous quotes from the Brazilian driver adorn the inside of the cockpit and his name is inscribed on the front and rear wings.

This tribute not only commemorates the 30th anniversary of Senna’s death, but also celebrates his six victories in Monaco, five of them consecutive between 1989 and 1993, a record that makes him the most successful driver in the history of the legendary Monegasque circuit.

 

Ayrton Senna was a legend at McLaren, their most successful driver ever. He clinched three World Drivers’ Championships and four Constructors’ Championships for the team.  Senna was also known as “The King of Monaco” thanks to his record six wins there, five in a row.

Team statements

“The team is proud to recognize and celebrate Ayrton Senna’s extraordinary life and legacy through this McLaren livery,” said Zak Brown, CEO of the team. “Senna remains revered and respected as one of Formula One’s greatest icons and McLaren’s most decorated driver. His impact on the team is immense, and it is an honor to race for him at his most successful circuit in his colours of green, yellow and blue.”

The creation of this special livery has been a year-long process, in close collaboration with the Senna family, who have been involved in every step of the way. A tribute that reflects the deep respect and admiration that McLaren feels for one of its most emblematic drivers.

 

Beyond the on-track tribute, McLaren has unveiled a special version of the road-going McLaren Senna, called the Senna Sempre. This car features a similar design to the F1 car, including a portrait of Senna in dot matrix.

More tributes

To complete the experience, both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will wear special overalls in Senna’s colours during the weekend. In addition, fans will be able to purchase a collection of personalized merchandise, inspired by Senna’s colours and the McLaren team livery during his era. The Senna x Monaco line will be available in McLaren Store and website.

Ayrton Senna’s legacy lives on in the heart of McLaren, and this emotional tribute at the Monaco Grand Prix is a testament to the deep connection between the team and the legendary Brazilian driver. A tribute that is sure to excite motorsport fans around the world.
