An Itinerary Woven with Elegance and Emotion

Guests embark in Paris to a champagne welcome, surrounded by the warm glow of polished brass and marquetry.

As the Venice-Simplon-Orient-Express departs the French capital, the rhythmic hum of the rails sets the tone for a voyage that is as sensory as it is scenic.

The train glides through the French countryside, crosses into Italy, and descends toward the ancient ruins of Pompeii.

Here, travelers step into history with a private guided tour, exploring one of the world’s most iconic archaeological sites. Grand Suite guests receive access to Casa del Larario in Regio V—a rarely seen masterpiece supported by Caruso Hotel’s preservation initiatives.

Every detail evokes Belmond’s signature blend of craftsmanship, heritage, and storytelling.

According to Pascal Deyrolle, General Manager of the Venice-Simplon-Orient-Express, this first Amalfi-bound expedition “embodies the art de vivre—an ode to culture, beauty, and emotion that defines every Belmond experience.”

Beyond the Tracks: Caruso, A Belmond Hotel

After a night aboard the train, guests are whisked to Caruso, A Belmond Hotel—an 11th-century palace suspended above the cliffs of Ravello.

Once a sanctuary for artists and poets, Caruso remains a symbol of the Amalfi Coast’s grandeur.

Its terraces open onto sweeping Mediterranean views, where mornings begin with sunlight over the sea and evenings end with music among the lemon groves.

Accommodations are assigned to match the onboard experience: Historic Cabin guests stay in Superior Garden Rooms, Suite passengers in Sea View Junior Suites, and Grand Suite travelers in Sea View Terrace Suites.

Every meal at Caruso is a tribute to Italian gastronomy. The itinerary includes breakfast overlooking the coast, alfresco lunches, and gala dinners showcasing local ingredients.

Guests can enjoy aperitivos at sunset or attend open-air cooking classes led by Executive Chef Armando Aristarco, celebrating the flavors of Campania.

Immersive Experiences Along the Amalfi Coast

The three-night journey balances indulgence with discovery. On the second day, guests may explore the ruins of Pompeii, join culinary workshops, or relax by Caruso’s famed infinity pool.

On the third, the Mediterranean takes center stage.

A private boat excursion to Positano reveals secret coves and hidden beaches, while those staying ashore can participate in art lessons beneath the arches of the Loggia.

The Bar Car ‘3674’ becomes a social heartbeat, alive with live piano music and cocktails served in crystal glassware. As the train travels under starlit skies, conversations drift between tables, and time itself seems to pause.

From its polished mahogany panels to its Lalique glass details, the train remains a masterpiece of design and nostalgia.
