In the world of luxury and art, few collaborations resonate as deeply as the union of Dom Pérignon and Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami. This partnership marks a new chapter in Dom Pérignon’s ongoing creative journey, inviting collectors and connoisseurs to experience champagne not just as a beverage, but as a canvas for artistic expression.

A Fusion of Art and Luxury

Dom Pérignon has long been synonymous with excellence, crafting vintage champagnes that are as much about heritage as they are about innovation. For their latest creative chapter, Creation is an Eternal Journey, the maison has enlisted seven visionary artists, with Takashi Murakami leading the way. His task: to reimagine the iconic bottles of Dom Pérignon Vintage 2015 and Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage 2010.

Murakami, renowned for his Superflat aesthetic and playful, colorful motifs, brings a unique energy to these limited editions. His signature smiling flowers—vibrant, cartoon-like, and full of life—adorn the dark, elegant bottles and coffrets, creating a striking contrast between Dom Pérignon’s minimalist elegance and Murakami’s exuberant imagination.

“Through my collaboration with Dom Pérignon, I wanted to express a form of time travel. My goal is to remain relevant in 100 or 200 years and to transcend time. When the label has aged, and I am gone, and my children are gone, I hope that people of the future, when they see it, will reimagine 2025 in their own minds”, says Takashi Murakami

The Artistic Vision Behind the Design

Murakami’s work is deeply rooted in the concept of kawaii—the culture of cuteness—and the Superflat movement, which blurs the lines between high art and pop culture. His collaboration with Dom Pérignon is a celebration of this philosophy, where playful motifs meet the sophistication of vintage champagne.

Dom Pérignon’s history is rich with artistic partnerships. From Andy Warhol and Jeff Koons to Karl Lagerfeld and Lenny Kravitz, the maison has consistently sought to push the boundaries of luxury through art. Murakami’s contribution continues this tradition, reaffirming Dom Pérignon’s commitment to artistic exploration and reinvention.

The Story Behind Dom Pérignon

The name Dom Pérignon pays homage to Dom Pierre Pérignon, a 17th-century monk and cellar master at the Abbey of Hautvillers. While he did not invent champagne, his innovations—such as blending grape varieties, improving clarity, and using stronger bottles—laid the foundation for modern winemaking.

What sets Dom Pérignon apart is its dedication to vintage excellence. Unlike many champagne houses, Dom Pérignon only releases wines from exceptional years, ensuring each bottle is a masterpiece of time and craftsmanship.
