The season offers exhibitions, performances, and festivals that elevate the mountain town’s creative identity.

Exhibitions Shaping the Season

The Aspen Institute honors its legacy through dynamic programming. 

The exhibition Sculpting the Environment remains on display at the Resnick Center for Herbert Bayer Studies until April 18, 2026. Guided tours illuminate Bayer’s deep connection with Aspen’s landscape. 

His vision shaped the iconic Aspen Meadows into a unified artistic environment. The series of seminars offered this winter, including Youth Seminars and the Great Decisions Seminar Series, brings intellectual exploration to the forefront. 

These sessions deepen the understanding of culture, community, and philosophy.

The Aspen Art Museum fuels curiosity with a compelling lineup of winter exhibitions. 

Glenn Ligon’s Break It Down opens the season with layered commentary on language and perception. 

Shahryar Nashat’s Raw Is the Red merges movement and tension. Jacqueline Humphries introduces a bold abstract language in December. 

Victoria Colmenga’s Play Technique experiments with structure, color, and gesture. These shows expand the cultural landscape and define an essential part of the Culture in Aspen during December.

Performances Bringing Nightlife Alive

DanceAspen continues to position itself as a vital force in the performing arts. A Snowy Soirée arrives on December 22nd with a warm, celebratory spirit.

The evening mixes dance excellence with seasonal charm. Later, the company presents re:imagine at the Wheeler Opera House, where innovation meets tradition in a contemporary choreography showcase.

The Wheeler Opera House anchors the city’s winter entertainment. The venue blends tradition and modernity with concerts, comedy shows, theater nights, and film programming. 

The Aspen Laugh Festival returns in March, filling the Rockies with vibrant comedic energy.

Music Defining the Winter Rhythm

Musical variety enhances the Culture in Aspen during December, creating a soundtrack for the season. 

The Aspen Music Festival and School collaborates with the Wheeler Opera House to present pianist and composer Chloe Flower on December 23rd. Classical music continues later in winter with a dedicated recital series.

Jazz Aspen Snowmass introduces the Paul JAS Center, a significant new space for creative gatherings. Its debut includes a performance by Trombone Shorty. 

The venue will host concerts that highlight global sounds and local engagement.

Belly Up Aspen maintains its reputation as a powerhouse for live performances. 

The venue welcomes artists like Diplo, Alesso, LCD Soundsystem, and Foreigner. The intimate setting enhances the experience and keeps the city’s musical heartbeat strong.

The Palm Tree Music Festival returns for a two-day celebration in February. Headlined by Calvin Harris, Kygo, Sammy Virji, and Mau P, the festival blends electronic music with mountain energy.

Film Experiences for Every Cinephile

Aspen Film delivers world-class programming through Shortsfest, a premier festival dedicated to short-format creativity. 

The April event includes screenings, workshops, and conversations. Throughout the winter, the Indie Showcase series activates the Aspen Film Isis Theatre.
