With 115 days left before its long-awaited debut, Audi revealed its groundbreaking R26 Concept, a design manifesto that mirrors the brand’s transformation.

Far more than an engineering project, this entry into Formula 1 signals Audi’s determination to redefine performance, design, and technological excellence at the highest level of racing.

The R26 Concept: A Statement of Design and Identity

The Audi R26 Concept is not just a car—it is a visual embodiment of the brand’s philosophy: clear, technical, intelligent, and emotional.

Minimalist lines meet precision geometry, creating an aerodynamic form sculpted for both function and beauty.

Its color palette—titanium, carbon black, and the new Audi red—conveys strength and elegance.

The signature red rings, exclusive to the team, underline Audi’s Formula 1 presence with bold distinction.

According to Chief Creative Officer Massimo Frascella, the R26 marks the beginning of a unified aesthetic across all divisions.

A Strategic Flagship for a New Generation

For Audi Formula 1, the racetrack is more than competition—it’s a laboratory for innovation and cultural reinvention.

Formula 1’s global stage offers unmatched visibility, with over 820 million fans and billions of dollars in franchise value.

This exposure provides fertile ground for brand expansion and sponsorship opportunities, ensuring the team’s financial sustainability.

CEO Gernot Döllner emphasized that Formula 1 is central to Audi’s renewal strategy. “It’s not about participation,” he stated, “it’s about progress, persistence, and ultimately, victory.”

The Team Behind the Vision

Success in Formula 1 requires experience and fresh energy—a balance Audi has carefully achieved.

The leadership team includes former Ferrari principal Mattia Binotto and ex–Red Bull strategist Jonathan Wheatley.

Behind the wheel, German veteran Nico Hülkenberg joins Brazilian rising star Gabriel Bortoleto, representing both precision and promise.

Supported by global partners such as adidas, bp, and Revolut, the project benefits from robust commercial and technical backing.

Engineering Power from Germany to the World

Since 2022, Audi engineers in Neuburg an der Donau have been crafting the future of hybrid performance.

The Formula 1 power unit—a 1.6-liter V6 turbo engine paired with an advanced hybrid system—embodies cutting-edge German engineering.

The MGU-K motor generator, energy recovery systems, and sustainable e-fuels reflect the brand’s focus on efficiency and sustainability.

Partnering with bp, Audi ensures the use of sustainable fuels and eco-conscious materials without compromising power output.

Global Collaboration and Innovation

Audi’s Formula 1 project spans multiple locations: Neuburg for engine design, Hinwil for race operations, and Bicester for technological synergy.

This tri-continental approach reflects the brand’s philosophy of integrated innovation.

The proximity to the UK’s “Motorsport Valley” gives Audi access to top-tier expertise, ensuring seamless coordination between power unit and chassis.

As Chief Financial Officer Jürgen Rittersberger explained, Formula 1 represents more than engineering; it’s emotion, entertainment, and engagement.

From Heritage to the Pinnacle of Performance

From the legendary quattro systems in rally racing to hybrid victories at Le Mans, Audi has consistently pushed boundaries.

Now, the Audi Formula 1 initiative becomes the latest stage in this evolution—an arena where technology meets passion.

The upcoming powertrain regulations prioritize hybrid efficiency and sustainable energy sources.

Audi’s V6 hybrid engine, already tested in dynamic simulations, will soon make its real-world debut on the racetrack.

The Countdown to Melbourne

The official public debut of the Audi Formula 1 team is scheduled for January 2026.

Initial tests in Barcelona and Bahrain will follow, setting the stage for the first official race in Melbourne, Australia, from March 6 to 8.

As the lights go out on that historic day, Audi will officially enter the world’s most demanding motorsport arena—determined to win not just trophies, but hearts.
