Mayakoba, the renowned 240-hectare luxury enclave along the Riviera Maya, proudly announces the return of its highly anticipated Día de Muertos celebration—a three-day event honoring one of Mexico’s most treasured cultural traditions.

This year’s edition will feature an array of authentic experiences and a thoughtfully curated program designed to immerse guests in the vibrant artistry, history, and spirit of the holiday.

From Friday, October 31, through Sunday, November 2, Mayakoba will transform into a living tribute to Mexican heritage, offering travelers the chance to experience the magic of Día de Muertos in a setting that seamlessly blends nature, culture, and world-class hospitality.

Recognized globally for its lush ecosystems, exceptional gastronomy, award-winning spas, and creative cultural programming, Mayakoba is home to three iconic resorts—Banyan Tree Mayakoba, Fairmont Mayakoba, and Rosewood Mayakoba.

The resort community will soon welcome a fourth addition, Alila Mayakoba, set to open in late 2025, which will further elevate the destination’s offerings. Each property will host its own series of themed events and activities throughout the weekend, adding unique flavor and personality to the overarching celebration.

“We’re delighted to bring back our Día de Muertos festivities this fall,” shared Luis Durán, CEO of RLH Properties, the parent company of Mayakoba.

“This event reflects the destination’s deep appreciation for Mexico’s heritage and its enduring connection to the local community. Our goal is to create a meaningful and immersive weekend for guests, where tradition meets contemporary luxury.”

Each evening, guests will be invited to explore Mayakoba’s serene waterways aboard traditional boats, enhanced with live performances and artistic displays along the canals. These journeys will lead to beautifully crafted altars, vibrant parades, culinary showcases, and themed workshops—offering visitors a chance to honor loved ones and engage with the soulful essence of Día de Muertos through authentic cultural expression.

At the heart of the festivities, a communal altar will invite reflection and remembrance. Decorated with marigolds, sugar skulls, and photographs, the space will serve as a moving tribute to the cycle of life and memory. Families will also enjoy special programs at the acclaimed Balam and Coatí Kids’ Clubs, where younger guests can take part in creative workshops such as Catrina parades, floral crown making, and decorative skull crafts—turning learning into a joyful, hands-on experience.
