If patience had a signature, it would read The Glenlivet SPIRA. The distillery’s oldest release to date, this 60-year single malt arrives cradled in a sculptural magnum decanter—its very form echoing the river and copper stills that shaped the spirit within.

 

Unveiled for the Distillers One of One charity auction at Hopetoun House on 10 October 2025, SPIRA is a one-off artifact: distilled on 1 October 1965, matured for six decades in a single hogshead, and presented to benefit Scotland’s Youth Action Fund.

How does design elevate SPIRA from bottle to objet d’art?

SPIRA’s flowing glass is hand-blown by master glassmaker Brodie Nairn at Glasstorm, its verdigris copper lid nodding to the distillery’s stills and opening via an elegant key mechanism. The piece rests on a carved oak plinth by NEJ Stevenson, cabinetmakers to the British Royal Family. Form mirrors process; the spiral silhouette channels vapor’s dance and the River Livet’s current.

What does six decades in oak taste like—on the nose, palate, and finish?

SPIRA surprises with lift and light. The nose leads with bright homemade orange marmalade, apple-and-sultana cake, sweet liquorice, salted caramel, fresh lemon peel, subtle Earl Grey, and gentle spices of nutmeg, clove, and a whisper of rosemary. 

 

On the palate, it’s “fresh and juicy”: ripe pear and sweet kiwifruit alongside smooth vanilla nougat and apricot; heather honey and roasted pistachios usher in depth before orange peel and warming cinnamon-cardamom close ranks. The finish is long and complex, with enduring spice—a masterclass in sustained energy at great age.
