In the heart of Puglia, in the hilltop “White City” of Ostuni, a beautiful transformation has taken place. Vista Ostuni opens its doors, breathing new life into a 14th-century stone palazzo that was long abandoned.

Once a convent, later a tobacco factory, the building has been meticulously restored to become a luxury hotel that intertwines heritage, design, and wellness.

With 28 rooms and suites, lush gardens, refined dining, and panoramic views, Vista Ostuni offers a sensory journey through Italian craftsmanship and Puglian charm.

Architecture, Restoration & Design

Originally built as a convent in the 1300s and later converted into a tobacco-processing facility, the palazzo had been vacant for nearly six decades before its revival.

The renovation, led by Roberto Murgia of RMA Studio, preserved over 6,000 square meters (more than 64,000 square feet) of historic interior spaces.

Those spaces include grand entrance halls, soaring vaulted ceilings, original stonework, and a cloister now roofed with glass to flood the space with natural light.

Public areas reflect a thoughtful design palette, combining airy vaulted ceilings with stone floors, plaster and Artemisia-toned walls, pops of color from headboards or curtains, and custom furnishings that nod both to local artisans and modern luxury.

Outside, Belgian landscape architect Erik Dhont shaped seven-acre gardens filled with olive and carob trees, wild herbs, and Mediterranean flora that frame courtyards and terraces.

The gardens serve not just as scenery, but as a defining character of the hotel, blending nature, history, and regional identity.

Amenities, Wellness & Gastronomy

Guests of Vista Ostuni have access to a wide array of amenities that elevate the stay beyond mere lodging. The spa extends wellness all year round, featuring an indoor pool, fitness center, and treatments from the respected Biologique Recherche.

Outdoor pools include a rooftop infinity pool and a garden pool set amid olive groves and verdant plantings, all designed for relaxation and immersion in nature.

On the dining front, celebrated chef Andrea Berton oversees the fine-dining restaurant Berton al Vista, which showcases Puglia’s rich culinary traditions through locally sourced produce and regional flavors.

For lighter fare or more casual moments, Bianca Bistrot by the garden-pool offers meals from breakfast through aperitivo. Guests can also unwind in the Chiostro Bar or the rooftop Infinity Bar, where cocktails are served in the golden hours against sweeping views of the Adriatic Sea and Ostuni’s whitewashed cityscape.

Cultural Impact & Why Vista Ostuni Matters

Vista Ostuni is more than a luxury hotel; it is a cultural restoration project. The Passera family, behind the Vista group, has taken care to preserve local heritage while introducing sustainable design and socially conscious practices.

The building, with its multiple past lives—from religious to industrial—reflects Puglia’s layered history. Its revival brings economic activity, design prestige, and renewed interest to a region often overshadowed by Italy’s more famous destinations.

This hotel also symbolizes a modern approach to hospitality: blending luxury with authenticity, honoring tradition while inviting innovation.

Vista Ostuni positions itself as not just a place to stay, but a place to belong—to experience regional identity, regional food, and regional environment in a context of comfort and elegance.
