Facing American favorite Amanda Anisimova, Aryna Sabalenka prevailed 6–3, 7–6 (7–3) in a thrilling contest that lasted just under two hours inside Arthur Ashe Stadium.

By lifting the trophy again in New York, Sabalenka became the first woman since Serena Williams in 2014 to defend her US Open crown, a milestone that instantly adds weight to her growing legacy.

Her powerful groundstrokes and trademark intensity were evident from the start, overwhelming Anisimova in the opening set. Yet it was her ability to maintain composure during the tight second set that truly set her apart, proving once again why she remains at the very top of the women’s game.

Mental Resilience Defines the Champion

Sabalenka’s triumph in New York is not only a reflection of her physical power but also of her mental resilience. Earlier in 2025, she had suffered painful defeats in other Grand Slam finals, moments that might have shaken a less determined player.

Instead, she used those setbacks as motivation, transforming frustration into focus. In her post-match comments, Sabalenka credited the discipline she has gained over the past year, saying that the “tough lessons made this victory even more rewarding.”

This ability to grow from adversity underscores why she has become such a formidable competitor. When Anisimova pushed hard in the second set, even forcing Sabalenka into longer rallies and creating pressure moments, the Belarusian stayed calm and executed with precision in the decisive tiebreak.

Legacy and World No. 1 Status

At just 27 years old, Sabalenka now boasts four Grand Slam singles titles—two Australian Opens and two US Open crowns. By defending her title in New York, she has further cemented her hold on the No. 1 ranking and her reputation as the most consistent performer on the biggest stages.

The US Open has become her defining arena, a tournament where her explosive style and fearless spirit shine brightest.

For Anisimova, reaching her first Grand Slam final on home soil was already a remarkable achievement. Her powerful game and resilience throughout the tournament won her admiration from fans and analysts alike, suggesting that she, too, is poised to remain a fixture in the later stages of majors for years to come.

The women’s final was played under the closed roof of Arthur Ashe Stadium, giving the clash an electric atmosphere. Sabalenka stormed through the first set, breaking Anisimova’s serve early and dictating play with heavy forehands and relentless depth.

The second set, however, showcased the American’s fighting spirit as she matched Sabalenka point for point, pushing the set into a high-stakes tiebreak.

When the pressure peaked, Sabalenka raised her level, striking winners with precision and controlling the tempo to close out the match 7–3 in the breaker. The victory not only delighted her fans but also sent a strong message to the rest of the tour: she is not only the present of women’s tennis but also its future.
