Premiering at the 2025 US Open, a collaboration between Yohji Yamamoto and adidas introduced an 18-piece collection of apparel, footwear, and accessories designed for professional athletes while maintaining an avant-garde aesthetic.

By merging adidas’s technical expertise with Yamamoto’s visionary artistry, Y-3 (Y for Yamamoto and 3 for the number of adidas stripes) proves that sportswear can be both highly functional and daringly stylish.

A Collision of Sport, Art & Precision

This season’s collection is rooted in bold visual storytelling. Inspired by Suibokuga, the Japanese art of ink painting, garments and footwear showcase abstract motifs resembling fossilized amber.

These designs sit against clean, structured silhouettes that echo precision and control, while asymmetric cuts add a sense of unpredictability. The result is a wardrobe that redefines tennis aesthetics: part performance gear, part wearable art. It embodies the philosophy of constant reinvention, transforming tennis into a platform for creative expression.

Engineered for Motion, Designed for Impact

Beyond aesthetics, Y-3’s collection is engineered for peak performance. Each piece incorporates adidas’s CLIMACOOL technology, which enhances breathability and ensures players stay cool during the intensity of matches.

Hidden zippers, integrated inner bras, and discreet ball storage within skirt linings demonstrate thoughtful innovation tailored specifically for the demands of tennis.

These details emphasize that Y-3 is not only about fashion but also about empowering athletes with the tools they need to perform at the highest level.

Hero Pieces and Court Icons

Among the standout designs, the Y-3 WOW Dress delivers elegance paired with technical precision, while the Tennis FreeLift T-Shirt Pro combines bold graphics with optimized movement.

On the footwear side, the label reimagines adidas’s iconic tennis silhouettes, including the Defiant Speed 2, Avacourt 2, Adizero Ubersonic 5, Barricade 13, and Adizero Cybersonic 2. Each shoe embodies Y-3’s disruptive spirit, offering both sleek design and professional-grade performance.
