Hermès latest pop up is not a conventional fashion event but a theatrical adventure rooted in storytelling. It brings a surreal mystery to life inside Pier 36, Manhattan, from June 19 to June 29.

Titled Mystery at the Grooms’, the experience transforms a former warehouse into a fictional French estate.

This immersive Hermès pop up is much more than a visual spectacle. It invites guests to explore the brand’s craftsmanship through an interactive quest, blending luxury with playful curiosity.

Enter the Grooms’ World

Visitors are welcomed into the Grooms’ House — a fictional domain created for caretakers of Hermès’ mythical horses.

This concept echoes the brand’s equestrian legacy that began in 1837, but with a twist. The horses are missing, and guests must locate them using a digital phone-based game.

The house contains six immersive rooms: the Dormitory, Pantry, Stock Room, Laundry, Refectory, and the Head Grooms’ Office.

Each room holds secrets, character interactions, and scattered clues.

A Game of Luxury and Imagination

Within each chamber, Hermès objects hide in plain sight. The game begins in a floral garden filled with horse-shaped topiaries and glowing Hermès symbols.

Every room that follows is curated like a stage set, where lighting, scent, and design create mood and meaning.

Hermès’ sixteen métiers are integrated subtly. In the Laundry, a sweatshirt reveals a horse patch among rolling garments.

In the Refectory, carrots replace knives in an elegant visual pun.

There’s also a safe in the Head Grooms’ Office that opens only with the correct combination.

Each challenge is carefully timed: guests spend seven minutes in each room, making the mystery unfold with urgency and delight.

Performance Meets Play at the Hermès Pop Up

Guided by actors dressed as grooms, participants receive clues and perform a role in the story.

One voice, that of a detective named “Mr. Honoré,” narrates through mobile speakers. Named after Hermès’ original Parisian street, his character adds a layer of narrative intrigue.

The experience blurs the line between installation and live theater.

Materiality is paramount — from polished wood cabinetry to custom embroidery, every detail reaffirms Hermès’ identity.

A Mystery With a Parisian Soul

Mystery at the Grooms’ is not just a Hermès pop up; it’s a living diorama. Visitors are encouraged to touch, listen, explore, and reflect.

Those who discover all hidden horses are rewarded with an exclusive Hermès-designed notebook and coloring book.

Originally launched in Shanghai, this immersive installation continues its global tour to Tokyo, Singapore, and Paris.

But in New York, the brand has conjured a moment of magic that feels entirely of the city — inventive, stylish, and unexpected.
