Osaka hasn’t staged a World Expo since 1970, but its 2025 comeback is pure 21st-century spectacle. Architect Sou Fujimoto—celebrated for Serpentine Pavilion 2013—has designed a 2-kilometre-long Grand Ring hovering 12 m above reclaimed land in Osaka Bay.
The lightweight steel-and-timber loop encircles every national pavilion, creating a walkable, weather-protected promenade and offering elevated views of the sea-filled Osaka skyline.
Footprint: ≈ 50 ha (same scale as Milan 2015).
Symbolism: A ring for interconnected futures, echoing the Expo’s theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.”
Sustainability: On-site solar canopy, geothermal cooling, and a 100 % renewable-energy pledge backed by Kansai utility suppliers.
