Starting from pole position, the McLaren driver Lando Norris, delivered a masterclass in control and strategy at the Monaco Grand Prix 2025

He survived intense pressure from Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and Oscar Piastri (McLaren) while navigating the notoriously unforgiving street circuit.

From the start, Norris was locked into a fierce duel. Leclerc lunged into Sainte Devote, threatening his position immediately.

Strategy Shake-Up: The New Pit Stop Rule

This year’s Monaco Grand Prix featured a twist: every driver had to complete two pit stops and use three different tire compounds.

This rule brought unpredictability and tested each team’s tactical mettle.

McLaren timed Norris’ stops perfectly, ensuring he maintained the lead during crucial phases of the race.

The Virtual Safety Car periods added complexity, with tire degradation and track position becoming key factors.

Pressure from Ferrari and McLaren

Charles Leclerc was relentless throughout the Monaco Grand Prix, pushing Norris in every sector.

The Monegasque driver was desperate to win on home soil. Still, despite matching Norris in pace, he couldn’t find the window to overtake.

Oscar Piastri, Norris’ teammate, stayed in the hunt and completed the podium.

The young Australian remains at the top of the championship standings. His lead was slashed to just three points.

The race confirmed McLaren’s resurgence and highlighted Ferrari’s improved consistency. With both teams closing the gap to Red Bull, the championship battle is heating up.

Verstappen’s Gamble and Hamilton’s Comeback

Max Verstappen looked poised for another dramatic win after leading into the final laps. But Red Bull’s strategy backfired.

His second stop dropped him behind Norris, Leclerc, and Piastri, leaving him frustrated in fourth.

Lewis Hamilton, recovering from a three-place grid penalty, had a quiet but efficient drive.

Rising Stars and Veteran Struggles

Rookie Isack Hadjar delivered a career-best sixth place, showing skill and composure beyond his years. Liam Lawson followed in seventh, reinforcing Red Bull’s depth of talent.

Haas’ Esteban Ocon performed steadily, while teammate Ollie Bearman recovered from a grid penalty to finish twelfth after some risky early moves.

Elsewhere, George Russell (Mercedes AMG Petronas) endured a frustrating day. After clashing with Alex Albon, he picked up a drive-through penalty that cost him points.

Drama at the Back

Further down the order, Gabriel Bortoleto recovered from a collision at Portier to beat Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll.

Kimi Antonelli, the final classified finisher, pitted extremely late, while Fernando Alonso retired with engine issues.
