During Milan Design Week, Molteni&C unveils a poetic tribute to the city called Letters to Milan and celebrates the opening of Palazzo Molteni at Via Manzoni 9.

Letters to Milan is an evocative installation created in collaboration with Studio Klass and set within the elegant halls of the Poldi Pezzoli Museum.

Alessandra Quarto, the museum’s director, highlights the synergy between the decorative arts and contemporary design. “The Poldi Pezzoli Museum has always been a place of dialogue, where history and craftsmanship intersect with modern aesthetics. Gian Giacomo Poldi Pezzoli, our founder, was a visionary who valued artisanal beauty and the significance of decorative art in everyday life. This project with Molteni&C celebrates how design can bridge past and present, art and life.”

The installation extends through the museum’s courtyard, the Orangery, and the Armory, narrating the long-standing relationship between Molteni&C and Milan. It’s a story carved in architecture, enriched by design, and deeply rooted in the way we inhabit space.

A story in design

The journey of Molteni&C through Milan’s creative landscape includes milestones with iconic figures such as Gio Ponti, whose influence remains foundational, along with newer partnerships that keep pushing boundaries in craftsmanship and design thinking.

The immersive environment created in the museum mirrors Milan itself—a city composed of many layers, where the weight of history balances gracefully with innovation and light. It’s a space that transforms solidity into fluidity, material into memory, and design into culture. This is the Milan that has shaped, and been shaped by, Molteni&C.

Architectural voices like Aldo Rossi, Bruno Morassutti, Angelo Mangiarotti, and Herzog & de Meuron join the conversation, underscoring Milan’s constant reinvention through design. Their vision resonates with the words of contemporary authors—Umberto Fiori, Giorgio Fontana, and Federica Fracassi—who lend their voices to this city’s poetic identity in narratives that are part homage, part incantation.

Artistic dialogue

At the core of this experience is the Molteni&C 2025 Collection, presented within the installation as a love letter to Milan. These newly revealed pieces explore the soul of the city—its contrasts, its energy, and its evolution. Overseen by the brand’s creative director, Vincent Van Duysen, the collection draws from archival gems dating back to the 1970s and 1980s.

These past works are now reborn with a modern sensibility, offering contemporary designs that honor their roots while embracing present-day functionality and elegance.

Adding to the vibrancy of Design Week, the museum’s courtyard will host three thought-provoking dialogues between April 9–11.

Featuring voices from across design, art, and culture—such as Alex Majoli with Tony Chambers, Patrick Tuttofuoco with Maria Cristina Didero, and Denis Dekovic with Francesca Molteni—these talks promise to extend the spirit of creative exchange that defines both the installation and the city it celebrates.
