What International Collaborations Elevate This Year’s Lineup?

TONO 2025 expands its global reach through exclusive partnerships. Sophie Cavoulacos of MoMA curates a film program spotlighting 1980s New York art collectives, while the renowned artist Valentin Noujaïm joins the lineup alongside a selection of TONO video artists featured at the H BOX Gallery, housed within Lisbon’s Centro de Arte Moderno Gulbenkian. These collaborations inject new perspectives into the festival’s multidisciplinary approach.

Which Artists Are Defining the TONO 2025 Experience?

This edition unveils groundbreaking works from Korakrit Arunanondchai, Alex Gvojic, Jota Mombaça, and Daniel Steegmann Mangrané, each presenting immersive installations that blur the lines between reality and fiction. Live performances promise to captivate audiences, with avant-garde acts like Eartheater, Freeka Tet, and Bárbara Sánchez-Kane.

Additionally, a hybrid lecture-performance by Adam Linder, backed by Dance Reflections from Van Cleef & Arpels, and a sonic collaboration featuring Alberto Bustamante round out the festival’s diverse offerings.

How Does TONO Extend Beyond the Festival Dates?

Several exhibitions transcend the festival’s timeline, deepening the dialogue between art, memory, and geography. Notable long-term showcases include How Do You Write Death in the South? by Carolina Fusilier and Paloma Contreras Lomas at Museo Anahuacalli, and Abyss Between Two Mountains by Saodat Ismailova at Museo Amparo. These exhibits reinforce TONO’s commitment to art as an evolving conversation rather than a fleeting event.

Why Is TONO a Must-Attend Event for Contemporary Art Lovers?

Founded by curator Sam Ozer, TONO has cemented itself as a vital platform for time-based art, fostering interdisciplinary practices and bridging the gap between artists and audiences. With its bold experimental ethos and international collaborations, the festival continues to set the stage for the future of contemporary art in Mexico and beyond.
