A Panoramic View of Latin American Art

Co-curated by María Amalia García, Chief Curator at Malba, and Issa Al Shirawi, Chief of International Exhibitions at Qatar Museums, Latinoamericano explores a thought-provoking question:

How can the diversity of an entire continent be represented through a single collection of images?

With this in mind, the exhibition presents an expansive vision of Latin American artistic production, featuring works from the Malba, Costantini, and Qatar Museums collections.

Spanning from 1900 to the present, Latinoamericano will showcase 109 artists from across the region, including Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Paraguay, and Cuba.

Themes That Define a Continent

Latinoamericano reinterprets and reevaluates regional art within critical and historical contexts, showcasing iconic works closely associated with Malba’s artistic identity.

The exhibition is structured into five thematic sections, each exploring a different dimension of Latin America’s cultural and historical landscape:

  1. The Geography of Latin America – The influence of nature, landscapes, and the environment on artistic expression.

  2. Plural Identities – The multicultural and multiethnic essence of the continent.

  3. Urban Development – How cities have shaped and transformed artistic production.

  4. Social Struggles and Tensions – The powerful political and social movements that have defined the region
  5. Artistic Emancipation – The bold innovations and breakthroughs that have redefined Latin American art.
