With the Hublot Magic Ceramic, the watchmaker has now unveiled what it claims to be the world’s first homogeneous multicolored ceramic.

A material that seamlessly integrates multiple hues without relying on surface treatments.

This groundbreaking technology debuts in a highly exclusive 20-piece limited edition of the Big Bang Unico, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the iconic collection.

The challenge in producing richly colored ceramics lies in the inherent properties of zirconium oxide (ZrO2), which serves as the base material.

Since it is naturally white, achieving bold hues requires meticulous blending with metallic oxides.

While Hublot has successfully introduced striking shades like green, yellow, orange, and light blue in the past, the introduction of Magic Ceramic marks the next evolutionary step: a solid, homogeneous ceramic featuring intricate multicolored patterns.

Hublot Magic Ceramic: A true Game-Changer

Unlike previous attempts in the industry, Hublot Magic Ceramic represents the first-ever commercially available multicolored ceramic with a fully integrated color composition.

Hublot’s R&D Director, Mathias Buttet, has confirmed that this patent-pending process has been entirely developed in-house.

This means that if a piece of Magic Ceramic were to be cut in half, the colors and patterns would remain consistent throughout, rather than merely being a surface treatment.

The secret behind this innovation lies in the precise control of metallic oxides, which react differently to various temperatures during the ceramic baking and molding processes.

The result is a material where colors and intricate patterns are embedded at the core, ensuring both durability and aesthetic uniqueness.

In the first application of this technology, Magic Ceramic has been used to create the bezel of a limited-edition Big Bang Unico, featuring a dark grey base with vibrant blue circular patterns.

The Big Bang Unico Magic Ceramic: A bold first step

The introduction of Hublot Magic Ceramic is not just a technical demonstration but a bold commercial move.

Materializing in the form of a Big Bang Unico Magic Ceramic limited to just 20 pieces.

The watch follows the classic Big Bang Unico design with a 42mm x 14.50mm black ceramic case, featuring both matte and polished finishes.

The primary focus, however, is the Magic Ceramic bezel, where vivid blue circles contrast against a dark grey background.

Interestingly, each piece in this edition will have a slightly unique pattern due to the way the ceramic is processed and machined.

Beneath the skeletonized matte black dial lies Hublot’s in-house Unico movement, a self-winding, integrated flyback chronograph with a column wheel.

The mechanism is finished in dark grey tones to match the ceramic’s aesthetic and operates at a frequency of 4Hz, delivering a 72-hour power reserve.

The watch is completed with a black-lined rubber strap, ensuring a sleek and contemporary look.

A future of unlimited creativity

The launch of Hublot Magic Ceramic opens the door to an exciting new realm of ceramic watchmaking.

With the ability to integrate geometric patterns, organic motifs, and even gradient effects into ceramic components, Hublot is paving the way for an era of unprecedented creativity.

Priced at EUR 34,300, CHF 30,000, or USD 33,000, the Big Bang Unico Magic Ceramic is not just a luxury timepiece.
