Paris Fashion Week 2025: The Year of Minimalism and Maximalism Colliding

Paris Fashion Week 2025 offered a mix of tradition and transformation. While some brands relied on well-established formulas, others embraced technology, craftsmanship, and interactive design to push the industry forward.

Paris Fashion Week 2025 reaffirmed the return to traditional beauty standards, with casting dominated by size 0 (US) / size 4 (UK) models, if not smaller.

Diversity in body representation was once again sidelined, even among brands that had previously embraced it.

Craftsmanship as the defining element: Alaïa and Hermès

Luxury fashion is built upon craftsmanship, a fundamental element that justifies its pricing.

This was evident at Alaïa, where Pieter Mulier continued to refine the brand’s signature aesthetic.

Dresses constructed from molded metal tubing, shaped directly on the body, were among the season’s most striking innovations.

Alaïa’s blend of minimalism and artisanal expertise continues to fuel its rise under Mulier’s direction.

His rhinestone ballet flats and mesh footwear from 2023 and 2024 became instant hits, further solidifying the brand’s resurgence.

One of the most compelling innovations was Hermès’ experimental leatherwork.

Lambskin pieces that could be reassembled with zippers or buttons, and saddle-inspired fragments transformed into shorts and dresses.

A new era for Givenchy

Givenchy’s Instagram bio now reads “Givenchy by Sarah Burton,” signaling a fresh direction for the brand.

Following the departure of Matthew Williams, the former Alexander McQueen designer is now tasked with realigning the house with its heritage.

Coperni: Innovation as a signature move

Creating viral moments has become an essential strategy for Coperni, and Paris Fashion Week 2025 was no exception.

This time, the duo staged their show at the Adidas Arena, where 200 gamers participated in a simultaneous LAN party.

Yet, beyond the theatrics, the collection itself was just as compelling.

Inspired by the cyber world and Lara Croft aesthetics, Coperni introduced cargo tights, leather boots, distressed denim, and fake tattoo prints.

Playing it safe: Louis Vuitton and Dior

Louis Vuitton, the flagship house of the LVMH empire, took a familiar approach, once again embracing the theme of travel.

This season’s collection, showcased at Étoile du Nord near Gare du Nord, featured bold reinterpretations of the iconic Speedy bag and colorful travel trunks.

Staying true to creative director Nicolas Ghesquière’s eclectic, retro-futuristic vision.

Meanwhile, at Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri continued her feminist explorations, this time drawing inspiration from Virginia Woolf’s Orlando, a novel centered around gender fluidity.

Miu Miu and Issey Miyake: A breath of fresh air

Few luxury brands manage to experiment with fashion as a conceptual art form while maintaining commercial appeal—Miu Miu is one of them.

As a dominant force in the Lyst Index, the brand shows no signs of losing momentum.

For Paris Fashion Week 2025, Miuccia Prada and stylist Lotta Volkova embraced an unfiltered, raw femininity.

Everyday essentials such as cardigans, knee-length skirts, and bras were reimagined to reflect real-life spontaneity.

Mismatched outfits, visible bra straps, and casually draped coats exuded a sense of effortless realism—a refreshing contrast to the hyper-curated world of luxury fashion.

This spirit of innovation extended to Issey Miyake, where designers explored new ways to wear clothing.
