Amangiri Resort was situated in Canyon Point, a dramatic desert expanse in southern Utah, surrounded by awe-inspiring rock formations.

Its proximity to Navajo reservations and world-famous national parks—including the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Bryce Canyon, Zion, and Mesa Verde—enhanced its appeal as a remote yet accessible sanctuary.

Spanning 243 hectares, the resort was conveniently located off the Grand Circle highway, just a 30-minute drive from Page, Arizona.

This unique setting, rich in indigenous heritage and natural wonders, offered guests the opportunity to relax and explore the wilderness.

Design That Blends Seamlessly with the Landscape

Rather than imposing a monolithic structure on the desert terrain, the architects opted for a fragmented design that seamlessly integrated with its surroundings.

The various resort buildings were spread across the landscape, connected through terraces, platforms, pathways, and open-air spaces.

The guest accommodations—comprising suites and private villas—were arranged in a staggered, organic pattern, breaking the monotony of linear alignment.

This design choice created a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, mirroring the natural erosion patterns of the desert.

Facing the dramatic rock formations, Amangiri Resort established a subtle yet striking horizon line that complemented the towering cliffs.

The architectural layout mimicked the effects of wind and water erosion, with elements reminiscent of canyons, mesas, and desert plateaus.

A Harmonious Connection with Nature

Amangiri Resort was crafted to foster an intimate relationship between guests and the surrounding environment.

Each suite opened onto private terraces and sun decks, transforming outdoor spaces into seamless extensions of the interiors.

These areas were furnished and designed with the same attention to detail as enclosed rooms, offering open-air lounges and, in some cases, private pools.

Inspired by the extreme desert climate, the architects carefully selected a palette of materials and textures that echoed the natural landscape.

Concrete was chosen for the structural framework, while white natural stone was used for the flooring.

A Timeless Desert Experience

The interiors of Amangiri Resort were designed to provide an immersive and personalized desert experience.

Every room was conceived as a sanctuary for rest, meditation, and spiritual retreat, encouraging guests to embrace the outdoors through open lounges, terraces, and private fire pits.

These outdoor fireplaces paid homage to the nomadic traditions of Native American tribes and the legendary cowboy culture of the Old West.

Throughout the design process, the guest experience remained the highest priority. Sensory elements—light, shadow, textures, and the scent of desert air—were meticulously curated to enhance the connection between visitors and their surroundings.
