Renault Filante Record 2025: The Future of Electric Efficiency

Renault has unveiled a single-seater electric vehicle inspired by its historical models, with which it set the record for efficiency and energy consumption for an electric car in the first half of 2025.

Renault has just introduced its latest electric prototype: the Renault Filante Record 2025. However, this vehicle is neither a preview of a future production model nor merely a design exercise.

 

Instead, its purpose is to become the most efficient electric car in the world—an ambitious challenge Renault plans to tackle in the coming months.

 

To claim the title of the “most efficient electric car in the world,” this prototype, measuring 5.12 meters in length, 1.19 meters in height, and weighing “less than 1,000 kg”.

 

This power source will enable the car to attempt a new record by covering the greatest possible distance on a single charge.

Aerodynamics and Grip: The Key Factors

One of the primary strengths of this prototype lies in its exceptional aerodynamics, thanks to its sharp and narrow design. 

 

Renault plans to test this feature in a wind tunnel in the coming weeks, although the company has not yet disclosed specific performance data.

 

The vehicle is fitted with specially designed Michelin tires mounted on 19-inch wheels, boasting rolling resistance “40% lower” than conventional tires. 

 

This improvement is expected to significantly enhance the prototype’s efficiency.

Tires are just one of the many innovations featured in this electric vehicle. 

 

Renault also intends for it to serve as a “technology laboratory” for future models.

 

For instance, the battery itself accounts for 600 kg of the car’s total weight of “less than 1,000 kg”. 

 

Renault has opted for a cell-based construction rather than the traditional module-based approach, allowing for a more efficient adaptation to the compact dimensions of this streamlined vehicle.

 

Additionally, Renault has incorporated advanced technical solutions in the Filante 2025, such as steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire systems.

These features eliminate mechanical connections, relying entirely on electronic actuation, which reduces both weight and cost. 

 

Some manufacturers have already begun integrating similar systems into their vehicles.

 

Inside the cockpit, other cutting-edge technologies stand out. A flexible panoramic screen is rolled into a cylinder, displaying essential driving data. 

 

Furthermore, a unique airflow circulation system enables ventilation while the car is in motion, eliminating the need for a traditional climate control system, thus saving both weight and energy.

A Record-Breaking Prototype Inspired by Renault’s Heritage

Before attempting to break the efficiency record, Renault will showcase the Filante Record 2025 at the Rétromobile classic car exhibition in Paris from February 5 to 9.

 

Its blue exterior color is reminiscent of the 1926 Renault 40 CV Des Records prototype.

 

However, the Filante Record 2025 features a special paint that shifts from blue to violet depending on the viewing angle, according to Renault’s official statement.

 

Other design elements, such as round headlights, separate wheels from the bodywork, and the central single-seat cockpit, also pay tribute to the 40 CV Des Records. 

 

Meanwhile, the wheel fairings take inspiration from another iconic Renault prototype: the 1956 Renault Étoile Filante, from which this groundbreaking electric vehicle also derives its name.

What was the first Renault car?

Renault’s first car was the Renault Voiturette, produced between 1898 and 1903. The first commercial model was the Renault Voiturette 1CV, which was sold in 1899.

 

The Renault Voiturette 1CV was the first Renault car to feature a front-mounted engine and a gearbox. Louis Renault showcased the car’s superiority on Lepic Street in Montmartre, Paris.
