Open to the public until January 7, the Gucci installation draws inspiration from enchanting snow globes, blending Gucci’s iconic luggage with miniature depictions of landmarks such as the Palazzo Gucci in Florence and the Wooster Street boutique in New York City.

Strategically placed between Gucci’s two boutiques in the MDD, this activation offers a unique and complimentary experience for visitors during the festive season.

Guests can enjoy ice cream from the popular local spot Peel, along with coffee and baked goods from the Italian bakery Rosetta. Additionally, weekend coloring activities for children will create a joyful atmosphere for families.

The installation goes beyond celebrating the holiday spirit, as it pays tribute to Gucci’s rich, travel-inspired heritage. At the heart of the exhibit lies a nod to Guccio Gucci, the House’s founder, who began his career as a porter at London’s The Savoy hotel.

This early exposure to luxurious luggage inspired him to open his own boutique in Florence. This legacy is reflected in the displayed luggage pieces, ranging from elegant suitcases to grand trunks adorned with the iconic GG monogram.

These items are presented alongside intricately crafted miniature buildings representing key moments in Gucci’s history, including Palazzo della Mercanzia in Florence, the Wooster Street boutique in New York, and flagship stores on Avenue Montaigne in Paris and New Bond Street in London.

In addition to the installation, Sweet Bird North Plaza hosts an expanded Gucci activation featuring Art Walls, created in collaboration with American artist Corydon Cowansage. Known for her opulent compositions that blend abstraction and figuration, Cowansage adapted one of her works to create three murals for this project.

The murals showcase biomorphic shapes and a vibrant color palette, evoking depth and movement. Set against a pale blue background, the shapes resemble floating lips that seem to protrude from the surface—some smiling, others provocatively distorted.

These designs reflect the legacy of pioneering women artists such as Judy Chicago and Zilia Sánchez, who redefined femininity through anatomical biomorphic abstraction.

Cowansage’s murals are also featured at Miami Art Basel, where her work will be displayed at the Kaufmann Repetto gallery booth starting December 4.

Palazzo Gucci in Florence

Further extending the festive celebration, Gucci has recently illuminated the façade of Palazzo Gucci in Florence, creating a harmonious connection between Miami and Italy.

This iconic building will remain lit until January 17, honoring the House’s Florentine roots and spreading holiday cheer on both sides of the Atlantic.
