As the curtain falls on this record-breaking year, all eyes turn to Yas Marina Circuit, a venue synonymous with decisive moments in F1 history. Since its debut in 2009, Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi has hosted 15 Grands Prix, 12 of which were season finales.

On four occasions—2010, 2014, 2016, and 2021—the circuit determined the outcome of the Drivers’ Championship, with the unforgettable 2021 race also settling the Constructors’ title. This year, the spotlight is on McLaren and Ferrari, locked in a battle for the 2024 Constructors’ Championship, with only 21 points separating them after the Qatar Grand Prix.

A season finale holds a unique allure, transcending the stakes on the line. It’s more than just a race; it’s a moment to reflect on a year’s worth of effort, progress, and perseverance. The 2024 season began in February with team launches and preseason testing before kicking off in Bahrain. From there, it evolved into a journey of highs and lows, breakthroughs, and challenges. The finale symbolizes the culmination of months of hard work, celebrated with teammates, competitors, and fans alike.

Racing dynamics

Yas Marina Circuit has undergone significant changes to enhance racing dynamics. The reprofiled corners, introduced in 2021, improved overtaking opportunities, particularly in the two DRS zones leading into Turns 6 and 9, where 80% of overtakes occur.

These adjustments, combined with the ground-effect design of modern F1 cars, promise an exciting spectacle. The track holds notable records, including a 1:22.109 lap time set by Max Verstappen in 2022 and a fastest race lap of 1:26.103, also achieved by Verstappen. Lewis Hamilton leads the pack in victories here, with five triumphs at Yas Marina.

While the focus is on crowning the Constructors’ Champion, this weekend also sets the stage for the future. Teams will participate in December 10 tire tests to evaluate compounds for the 2025 season, offering a glimpse of what’s to come. Additionally, the finale marks a pivotal moment for Alpine as Esteban Ocon steps aside, allowing Jack Doohan to make his Formula 1 debut. The 21-year-old Australian, who will join Alpine full-time in 2025, is getting an early start, while Ocon transitions to Haas for the upcoming season.

Epic 2024 F1 season

As the season finale unfolds, fans can expect a blend of thrilling competition and poignant farewells. Yas Marina’s stunning backdrop provides the perfect stage for the intense rivalry between McLaren and Ferrari to reach its climax.

Beyond the checkered flag, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix signifies both an ending and a beginning—a moment to honor the past and embrace the future.
