While partnerships between Formula 1 racing and whiskey brands are nothing new—Jack Daniel’s, for instance, teamed up with McLaren and even released special Old No. 7 editions to mark the collaboration—the latest alliance comes from across the Atlantic.

Glenfiddich, the renowned Scotch whisky distillery, has announced a partnership with the Aston Martin Formula One Team during the Las Vegas Grand Prix. To commemorate this momentous occasion, Glenfiddich is unveiling a bottle of its rare 1959 vintage single malt whisky.

“This collaboration between Glenfiddich and the Aston Martin Formula One Team is built on a mutual commitment to excellence and innovation,” stated Søren Hagh, CEO of William Grant & Sons. While the partnership details remain somewhat vague, plans include ad campaigns, limited-edition bottles, and photo ops featuring iconic drivers holding Glenfiddich—not behind the wheel, of course. The partnership officially begins next year, promising exciting developments for fans of both brands.

Luxury redefined

For now, the highlight is the release of Glenfiddich’s 1959 vintage single malt, aged for an astonishing 65 years. Crafted by Gordon Grant, Glenfiddich’s third malt master, this whisky was distilled during a time when single malts were far from mainstream, with most whisky destined for blends.

Aged in a sherry butt, the tasting profile promises an extraordinary sensory experience: notes of oak, aged leather, tannins, and beeswax on the nose; followed by cloves, dates, walnuts, and dark chocolate on the palate; and finishing with a dry, tannic flourish.

Brian Kinsman, Glenfiddich’s malt master, described the release as a tribute to a transformative moment in history. “1959 marks the year Aston Martin first competed in Formula One and secured a win at Le Mans,” Kinsman said. “To celebrate this milestone, we explored Glenfiddich’s archives and uncovered this exceptional expression from that same year. This rare whisky symbolizes the spirit of innovation and excellence that both Glenfiddich and Aston Martin have championed for decades.”

Innovation in every sip

For those eager to get their hands on this extraordinary whisky, patience is key. Glenfiddich has yet to release details regarding the price and availability of this 1959 vintage. However, the distillery has hinted that it will be a truly exclusive and undoubtedly expensive offering.

Glenfiddich is one of the world’s most renowned Scotch whisky brands, recognized for its pioneering spirit and commitment to excellence. Founded in 1887 by William Grant in Dufftown, Scotland, Glenfiddich remains family-owned and operated, a rarity in the whisky industry. The brand is credited with popularizing single malt whisky globally, setting high standards for craftsmanship and innovation.
