This year’s Davis Cup Finals holds special significance as it will mark the farewell of tennis legend Rafael Nadal, adding an emotional layer to one of the sport’s most prestigious team competitions.

Nadal, a 22-time Grand Slam champion, will partner with four-time Major winner Carlos Alcaraz in their highly anticipated doubles pairing, dubbed “Nadalcaraz”. This duo, combined with Spain’s robust roster, including Roberto Bautista Agut, Pedro Martinez, and Marcel Granollers, will aim to secure Spain’s first Davis Cup title since 2019.

However, defending champions Italy, led by world number one Jannik Sinner, present a formidable challenge. Sinner, who captured both the Australian and US Opens in 2024, is determined to retain the title for his country.

Malaga takes center stage

This marks the third consecutive year Málaga will host the Davis Cup Final 8 phase, solidifying the city’s reputation as a premier destination for international tennis events. The venue is expected to be filled with passionate fans, particularly eager to witness Nadal’s final matches after a career spanning more than two decades.

The 38-year-old is the second member of the legendary Big Three to retire, following Roger Federer in 2022, while Novak Djokovic continues to excel at the highest level.

The tournament will open with quarterfinal matches: Spain faces the Netherlands on November 19, followed by Germany against Canada on November 20. The USA takes on Australia on November 21, with Italy meeting Argentina later that same day. The semifinals are scheduled for November 22 and 23, with the final set for November 24.

Participating teams

Spain’s lineup, captained by David Ferrer, features Nadal and Alcaraz, alongside Bautista Agut, Martinez, and doubles expert Granollers.

Italy’s squad includes Jannik Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti, and experienced doubles player Simone Bolelli.

Other notable teams include the USA, with Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton; Canada, led by Denis Shapovalov and Milos Raonic; and Australia, featuring Alexei Popyrin and Thanasi Kokkinakis. The Netherlands, Argentina, and Germany round out the eight squads, all fielding competitive teams with strong doubles pairings.

Competition Format

Each tie consists of three matches: two singles and, if necessary, a deciding doubles match. If the singles matches are tied 1-1, the doubles will determine the winner. This format adds an element of unpredictability, ensuring excitement for players and fans alike.
