However, despite his determined effort, Taylor Fritz’s progression to the semifinals depends on the outcome of the evening session clash between Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev at Turin’s Inalpi Arena.

Ranked No. 5 in the world, Fritz had to dig deep to overcome a challenge that almost slipped away. Alex de Minaur, entering the match with two losses and desperate for a breakthrough, brought high energy and aggressive shot-making to the court.

The Australian’s relentless pace and freedom in striking made the contest a stern test for Fritz, who had to keep his composure in key moments.

Fritz skillfully navigated the critical points under pressure. Although De Minaur claimed the opening set and came close to gaining full control, Fritz held firm in the second set, saving two pivotal break points early on.

Eventually, he broke in the decisive tenth game, turning the tide in his favor. In the final set, a single break was all Fritz needed to seal the match.

“It was tough. Even though I won, I never felt like I found a clear pattern to win points from the baseline,” Fritz admitted after the match.

“He put a lot of pressure on me. I did a good job late in the second set by finding my serve, which gave me the confidence to stay in the match and put more pressure on his service games.”

The Californian highlighted the match’s intensity: “When I missed my first serves, he crushed me from the baseline.

Serving better gave me some relief to stay competitive. I managed to hit some good shots in important moments and capitalized on a few of his mistakes, but it was incredibly tough.”

Fritz now awaits the evening results. His path to the semifinals depends on either Sinner, already qualified, winning his match or Medvedev securing a three-set victory. Meanwhile, De Minaur concludes a career-best season.

At 25, the Australian, now ranked No. 9 in the PIF ATP Rankings, finishes the year in the Top 10 for the first time. He also celebrates a remarkable campaign, claiming titles in Acapulco and `s-Hertogenbosch, achieving a personal best of 47 wins, and reaching the second week in all four Grand Slam tournaments.

His debut at the Nitto ATP Finals is the crowning achievement of an unforgettable year.
