In New York City, cozy neighborhood cafés abound, attracting customers with delicious frothy cappuccinos and friendly conversations.

While every New Yorker has their favorite spot, some cafés stand out for offering expertly crafted coffee and award-winning pastries.

 

Here, we’ve selected a few places to enjoy a good cup of coffee right now.

Clubhouse Cafe

This new café, located near Yankee Stadium and opened in January, is run by Bronx youth in collaboration with South Bronx United.

 

In addition to serving as a job training program for young people to gain skills, it offers Devoción coffee and baked goods such as cookies, croissants, and muffins, prepared at Mottley Kitchen in the South Bronx.

Plowshares Coffee

Plowshares began as a wholesale roasting company in upstate New York before opening its first café near Columbia University in 2014.

 

This small coffee roaster offers drip coffee, espressos, cold brew, and other classic beverages. It also has a second location in West Harlem.

Variety Coffee Roasters

Variety started roasting coffee in 2014 and currently has eight locations in the city, including a popular shop on the Upper East Side.

 

This coffee brand is known for its nutty and chocolatey roasts, and its coffee can also be found in other cafés around the city, as well as at the Three Decker diner in Greenpoint, which is run by Variety’s owner, Gavin Compton.

St Kilda Coffee

St Kilda roasts its beans in Brooklyn and is famous for fruity notes like pear, peach, blackberry, and plum.

 

The shop also offers beans from well-known roasters like Sey, Passenger, and Little Wolf. St Kilda opened in Midtown in 2016 and has a second location in Chelsea.

La Cabra

La Cabra is currently one of the best cafés in the city. The long lines at its original East Village location are proof of its popularity, and they’re worth the wait.

 

This Danish café offers excellent coffee, exquisite pastries, table service, and an appealing Scandinavian style. If every day could start with a perfect cappuccino in a clay cup and a cardamom bun, life would be better. They also have a second location in Soho.

Lê Phin

Named after the instrument used to brew coffee in Vietnam, Lê Phin opened its doors last year.

 

Here you can find iced Vietnamese coffee, hot Vietnamese-style coffee, as well as lattes with cultural ingredients like pandan and black sesame. The small, sunny shop has a few seats inside.
