Complete guide to enjoying the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Formula 1 first arrived in the oil-rich country of Azerbaijan in 2016, and although the first race did not make much of an impact, the event has become a fan favorite in recent seasons, thanks to some chaotic Sunday races.

This year, the F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix moves to a new slot in September on the calendar, being the first of two consecutive race weekends.

With the championship battle heating up in recent months and four different teams having cars capable of winning races this year, we could be in for another unpredictable outcome on the track in Baku in 2024.

Explore Everything Baku Has to Offer

The 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend is the perfect opportunity to discover everything this historic city offers. Baku is brimming with culture, with ancient and modern sectors offering much to explore locally.

With Baku City Circuit located in the heart of the city, you’re likely to be able to walk to the track each day for the on-track action. If not, you can find all the necessary information about Baku’s public transport and other ways to get around in our Azerbaijan Getting Around guide.

Growing Attendance at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix

The organizers of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix have not released official attendance figures since 2019, when 85,000 attended the Baku City Circuit over the three days of the race weekend. The highest known attendance figure for the event was in 2018, with 94,000 attendees.

Although no figure was announced in 2024, it was revealed that the latest edition had record attendance, with all grandstands sold out and an increase in international ticket sales.

Along with the Bahrain Grand Prix – which also has attendances under 100,000 – the Baku event has generally been the least attended on the calendar since joining in 2016. This can be a perk for attending the race, as there are fewer queues and less overcrowding than at better-attended races.

The fan zones will be bustling with activities throughout the weekend, with family-friendly options, E-Sports simulators, merchandise stalls, and pit stop challenges. The main fan zone is located behind the grandstand on the main straight.

A pit lane walk for 4-day ticket holders kicks off the weekend this year on Thursday, September 12, from 16:30 to 18:00. The fan zone is also expected to be open on Thursday. The drivers are also expected to appear for an autograph session on Friday or Saturday.

The popular F1 driver autograph sessions are also likely to return this year. In previous years, these have taken place on Friday and Saturday around lunchtime.

The exact times for the appearances of the drivers from each team will be listed in the event schedule when available.
