This highly anticipated book of Roger Federer follows the June documentary “Federer: Twelve Final Days”, which chronicled the last moments of Federer’s professional tennis career. Now, Assouline presents Federer, the first-ever visual biography of the Swiss icon, offering an in-depth glimpse into his childhood, personal life, and unparalleled career.

This two-year project was created in close collaboration with Roger Federer and his wife, Mirka. It includes never-before-seen family photos and personal memories drawn from their private archives and childhood mementos.

The book also features handwritten notes and exclusive interviews, painting a full picture of Federer’s life both on and off the tennis court. Spanning 336 pages, it also contains reflections from some of Federer’s famous friends, such as Rafael Nadal, Lionel Messi, Trevor Noah, Bill Gates, and Anna Wintour.

Captured elegance

Federer reminisces in the book, recalling his early days as a ball boy in Basel: “When my passion for tennis started, I was just a ball kid in my hometown, watching the players in awe. They seemed like giants to me, and that’s when I began to dream. Those dreams inspired me to work harder and, little by little, I gained confidence. That journey took me to the incredible place I stand today. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank everyone who helped a young Swiss ball kid’s dream become a reality.”

The Classic edition of the book includes all the same content as the Ultimate edition but in a striking hardcover format, measuring 10 x 13 x 1.5 inches. The Ultimate edition, also known as the limited or collector’s version, is hand-bound using traditional methods and comes housed in a luxurious clamshell case.

The Federer legacy

Part of the proceeds from the book will go to the Roger Federer Foundation, which supports education initiatives in Southern Africa and Switzerland.

Federer reflects on the significance of New York in the book: “If you can win in New York, you can win anywhere. There’s something magical about the energy of the crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium, and the pressure of playing there is unlike anything else.” The U.S. Open finals are this weekend, with the men’s final scheduled for Sunday, September 8.
