The 28-year-old Czech player Barbora Krejcikova showcased her poise and superior technique to triumph in three tight sets (6-2, 2-6, 6-4) and lift the trophy on the hallowed London grass for the first time.

Krejcikova had already tasted Grand Slam glory by conquering Roland Garros in 2021, but this Wimbledon victory holds a special significance for taking place on the legendary Centre Court and defeating an opponent who had just played in the French Open final.

It’s the best day of my career and my life,” declared the emotional champion. “I was a bit luckier than her. I don’t think anyone in Brno will believe I won here,” she added.

With this triumph, Krejcikova becomes the fifth Czech tennis player to be crowned Wimbledon champion in the Open Era, joining a select group that includes Jana Novotna, Martina Navratilova, Petra Kvitova, and Marketa Vondrousova.

Krejcikova’s victory also marks another statement of authority for Czech tennis, which continues to dominate the women’s game on the international stage.

In a final that had moments for both players, Krejcikova proved more solid in the decisive moments and knew how to seize her opportunities to take a well-deserved victory. Paolini, for her part, fought bravely and came close to causing an upset, but ultimately couldn’t overcome the champion.

A Tribute to Jana Novotna

After receiving the trophy, Krejcikova dedicated her victory to her mentor, Jana Novotna, who passed away in 2016 from cancer. “Novotna was the one who believed in my potential when no one else did,” said the champion. “I owe her a lot and I’m sure she’s here celebrating with me,” she added.
