n a nod to the Japanese origins of judo, Kenzo creative director Nigo has designed personalized kimonos for the French team that will compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
These outfits celebrate the union between East and West, drawing inspiration from the kimonos presented in the Parisian fashion house’s Fall/Winter 2023 fashion show.
“The kimono is a garment that has undergone various changes since its inception in Japan in the 8th century,” Kenzo said in a statement.
“During its heyday in the Edo era – characterized by economic growth, national stability and the enjoyment of the arts – regardless of the wearer’s age, gender or social status, it continued to be used at important events in Japan as a reminder of the country’s central culture.”
