Lauren sits in the opulent Ralph Lauren Corporation headquarters, a testament to the brand’s luxurious aesthetic.

The occasion? Unveiling the latest Olympic collection for Team USA, heading to the 2024 Paris Games.

David Lauren, Chief Branding and Innovation Officer at Ralph Lauren (and yes, Ralph Lauren’s son), explains the philosophy behind Team USA’s 2024 Olympic uniforms: “We understand the essence of American icons, but also the need for constant reinvention to stay fresh.”

Since 2008, Ralph Lauren has been the official outfitter for Team USA, crafting a signature visual language that blends timeless elegance with athletic flair.

Think crisp navy blazers adorned with subtle flag details, paired with white trousers, striped oxfords, and, for winter games, bold red, white, and blue coats.

A Look Forward, Inspired by the Past

For 2024, the collection pays homage to past Olympics while capturing the essence of modern American culture, with a nod to the future.

The opening ceremony uniforms are the most casual Ralph Lauren has created yet, featuring classic blazers paired with wide-striped oxfords and denim jeans – a quintessential American staple.

Boldness meets tradition

At the other end of the spectrum, the closing ceremony collection is a celebration of logos. Bold motorsport-inspired embellishments evoke Polo Sport’s heritage and Ralph Lauren’s long-standing influence in hip-hop.

In between these two extremes lies the diverse selection of village wear – bomber jackets, chore coats, satin baseball jackets, hoodies, tees, and even a reimagined flag sweater featuring an Olympic ring detail.

“These uniforms are keepsakes for the athletes“, David Lauren says. “We want them to be imbued with emotion and tell a story.“

The rationale behind the designs

Lauren explains the difference between the opening and closing ceremony looks: “For the opening ceremony, the goal is to present Team USA as ambassadors on a global stage. Blazers symbolize formality, projecting unity, strength, and purpose. Yet, we incorporate jeans to reflect the modern American preference for casual attire.“
