Nadal’s journey to the Olympics hasn’t been without its challenges. Plagued by injuries throughout the past two years, he openly declared the Games as his primary focus, even hinting at a potential Wimbledon skip in favor of proper preparation.

“My main goal now is to play Olympics,” Nadal asserted after a first-round exit at the French Open.  “That’s going to be here. So I need to prepare myself the proper way to try to arrive here healthy and well prepared, and then let’s see.”

A dream team

This dream doubles duo will not just light up the doubles court; they’ll also compete in singles at the Olympics.  The tennis competition will be held on the hallowed grounds of Roland Garros – a place where Nadal holds a staggering 14 Grand Slam titles, and where Alcaraz just triumphed with a French Open victory of his own.

“One pair, which I think everyone knows and was hoping for, is Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal,” declared national team coach David Ferrer.  “The second pair is yet to be decided, but this one is a no-brainer.”

For Alcaraz, making his Olympic debut, an Olympic medal holds immense value.  Fresh off his Roland Garros win, he boldly declared his Olympic aspirations above defending his Wimbledon title.

“The Olympic Games are a special event,” Alcaraz stated.  “It’s not just about yourself, but about representing your entire country. This year, I’d choose Olympic gold.”

Pair of legends

The stage for this epic battle is set on the iconic clay courts of Roland Garros, where both players have experienced immense success. Nadal, the veteran with 22 Grand Slam titles (including a record-breaking 14 at Roland Garros), and Alcaraz, the young gun with his recent French Open triumph, promise a captivating display of skill and strategy.

The Olympic Games kick off on July 26th, with the tennis tournaments commencing the following day. Coach Ferrer summed it up perfectly: “Rafa and Carlos will be playing together in Paris. This is a dream pairing, and we can’t wait to see them take on the world!”
