While Sinner won’t go down as the youngest player to claim the No. 1 ranking (that honor belongs to Carlos Alcaraz, who achieved it at 19 years old), he becomes the first Italian to ever reach the pinnacle of men’s tennis.
This is the culmination of a meteoric rise that saw him climb from third to second place just two months ago, dethroning the young Spaniard Alcaraz after his victory at the Miami Open. Those two months have been transformative – he has not only overtaken Alcaraz but also toppled the seemingly immovable Djokovic, bringing an end to his long-standing reign.
