Harmony Korine brings his vibrant paintings to the UK capital after a successful run in Los Angeles. This exhibition coincides with a world tour showcasing his 2023 film, Aggro Dr1ft, further immersing audiences in his creative universe.

Korine, alongside his Florida-based collective EDGLRD, is a bold name in the art world. They are known for their innovative approach, aiming to disrupt and redefine the way we experience technology, filmmaking, video games, and art itself.

Similar to the film that inspired it, Korine’s paintings offer a unique perspective. Utilizing an “infrared scope” aesthetic, these vibrant works go beyond literal interpretation, focusing on the emotions they evoke in the viewer.

“I wanted to create paintings that feel almost alive,” Korine explained. He pushes the boundaries of visual storytelling, questioning the need for pre-existing references and instead focusing on pure, raw imagery. “This project feels almost futuristic,” he added, highlighting his desire to redefine the very nature of painting and film within the contemporary world.

Korine’s color palettes are a result of meticulous experimentation, mixing oil paints to achieve an intense luminosity. This boldness draws inspiration from the playful yet impactful works of German artist Martin Kippenberger, subtly interwoven with the captivating imagery of photographer William Eggleston.

“Lines become secondary,” Korine says, describing the effect of his unconventional color choices and textures. “It’s about capturing the essence of energy, the vibration that resonates within the artwork.”
