Jeffrey Deitch Presents “Austin Lee: Psychomachia”

Austin Lee delves into human psychology and emotions through a fusion of digital and traditional art techniques, producing vibrant paintings, sculptures, and videos. In this exhibition, he examines the hyperreality of the digital era, employing 3D and virtual reality software to create pieces later translated onto canvas or crafted from materials such as resin and bronze. Inspired by his visit to Italy’s Giotto Chapel and the allegorical themes of Prudentius’s Psychomachia, Lee’s works reflect on virtues, vices, and fundamental human emotions.

Mario Ayala: “Mucho Mucho Amor (Bumper Sticker)”

Los Angeles-based artist Mario Ayala creates hyperrealistic paintings that mimic everyday formats like food trucks, towing signs, and bumper stickers. For this public art project, Ayala expanded a painting featuring a portrait of the late Puerto Rican astrologer and TV icon Walter Mercado. Depicted with a radiant aura from another realm, Mercado symbolizes calm amid chaos, aptly anticipating the annual traffic congestion during Miami Art Week.

Jill Mulleady: “Pesca a la Encendida”

Uruguayan-born, Paris-based artist Jill Mulleady collaborated with ICA Miami and the Miami Design District to produce a large-scale billboard visible along the busy I-95 highway. The piece reproduces her 2024 painting Pesca a la Encendida (Dazzled Fishing), showcased at Sant’Andrea de Scaphis—a Roman church historically serving port workers. The painting’s multicolored skies, mirrored on the turbulent ocean surface, contrast with the bright flame used by the fisherman to lure fish. The scene evokes Mulleady’s fishing activities in Uruguay while breathing secular life into the historic site.
